Bio

Neil runs the Training Services Group (TSG) within Maritime Services. TSG is a £40M per annum business delivering Training Management, Training Technology and Training Solutions to UK and international maritime defence customers. Neil joined in April 2013 from Selex Systems Integration as the Business Development Strategy & Campaign Lead for the Training Sector, prior to stepping up into the ‘Head of’ role in October 2017.

Neil has over 30 years’ SQEP across the Training continuum, particularly in the maritime and the wider Defence arena; this includes capability management, acquisition and service delivery, from both customer and supplier perspectives.

Prior to joining BAE Systems, he was the MOD’s Approval Authority for Type 26 Global Combat Ship Training, successfully leading the Training Line-of-Development through both Capability and Support Decision Point Reviews prior to Main Gate Approvals. Neil’s experience as Sponsor (in the MOD Equipment Capability area), User (as a serving Commander in the Royal Navy), and in Industry (in Vega, Selex SI and Finmeccanica more broadly) stood him in good stead to act as an agent for change within the Joint Project Team; the creative, now exemplar, commercial and operating models for Training Management underpinning the project are testament to his novel approach.

Neil served in the Royal Navy as a Submarine Qualified Training Manager, which included operational tours in HMS TRENCHANT and HMS TIRELESS (on ICEX, with a surfacing at the North Pole), as well as appointments to Navy Command, Britannia College in Dartmouth, NRTA and FOSM, as well as other shore training and operational support establishments.

Neil holds BSc (Mathematics), MA (Defence Studies) and MBA qualifications, is a Director of FAST Holdings Ltd and a Board Member for UTC Portsmouth; he is married to Etrea (with three grown-up children) living locally in Alverstoke and is a season-ticket holding ardent Spurs fan.
