Apprentice

CMSA Professional Certifications

The Certified Modeling and Simulation Apprentice (CMSA) designation is an industry certification established by the National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA) to recognize the knowledge, skills, and expertise of modeling and simulation (M&S) professionals and promote education and experience standards. The CMSA designation includes one level of competency: Apprentice.

CMSA Apprentice Level

The Certified Modeling and Simulation Apprentice (CMSA) designation is for individuals who have demonstrated an interest in M&S and an awareness of M&S as a discipline, including high school and college students. It serves as an entry point into the CMSP designation upon academic graduation and/or accumulation of relevant experience.

Apprentice Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Education and either One Year of Work Experience or One Year of Active M&S Engagement Activities (to include M&S / robotics clubs, specific M&S mentorship, an industry M&S internship)
  • Associate's degree and One Year of Work Experience or One Year of Active M&S Engagement Activities (to include M&S / robotics clubs, specific M&S mentorship, an industry M&S internship)
  • Bachelor’s Degree and One Year of Work Experience or One Year of Active M&S Engagement Activities (to include M&S / robotics clubs, specific M&S mentorship, an industry M&S internship)
  • Master’s Degree and One Year of Work Experience or One Year of Active M&S Engagement Activities (to include M&S / robotics clubs, specific M&S mentorship, an industry M&S internship)
  • Doctorate and One Year of Work Experience or One Year of Active M&S Engagement Activities (to include M&S / robotics clubs, specific M&S mentorship, an industry M&S internship)

M&S Professional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities at the Apprentice Level

  • Awareness of M&S principles, methods, and practices
  • Ability to plan and develop / enhance a simulation’s capabilities under the supervision of a team lead
  • Understanding of a particular simulation application, technology, or use case as a foundation to expand from in future M&S endeavors
  • Description of the path(s) to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of M&S and its application to meet important requirements and mission objectives
